I didn’t expect to learn this

In 2009, I was miserable at work and unsure of my next move. I was happy in my relationship and ready for a new adventure. So, I started a journey.

I found my way to nutrition school based on a single premise – I loved food.

Five years later, here I am.

Your Healthiest You has been my greatest classroom for living a happy life. I’ve learned a sh*t ton about myself, what it takes to run a business and most importantly how I can help people heal their relationship with food and live their best lives.

As I get ready to celebrate my business’s 5th birthday, I’ve been reflecting on everything that has gone down, up and sideways along the way. I’ve met amazing people (seriously, the best of the best), had countless number of aha moments and an equal number of frustrating struggles that eventually led to killer highs. It’s been a roller coaster, but one on which I’ve been a happy rider.

To celebrate YHY’s birthday, I want to share with you today my top 5 business and life lessons I learned over the past 5 years…

1 You are exactly where you are supposed to be.

Comparison is the thief of joy in life. Always trust that no matter where you are, it is exactly where you need to be.

2 Pick one and get started.

The main thing that keeps us from starting something we’re passionate about is the overwhelming list of to-dos. Make your list and then pick one action item per week to focus on. Just one.

3 Life is long (hopefully).

You don’t have to do every single project you’re excited about right now. Keep a bank of ideas and trust that you’ll birth the right ones into existence at the right times (see lesson one).

4 Don’t go it alone.

Humans aren’t designed to exist and create alone. For centuries we’ve lived in tribes, communities, with families and friends. Connect with people early on in the process of any new venture and lean on each other through it all.

5 ALWAYS come back to FUN.

Start with a smile. Play a song you love. Dance like no one is watching. Laugh with each other.

Then say thank you for how far you’ve come and breathe into exactly where you are right now.

They say that life is lived forward but best understood looking backwards, and I couldn’t agree more!

I don’t know what the future will hold (do we ever?), so I want to celebrate this 5 year journey with all of you, today. Why? Because I couldn’t have done it without you all – your questions, your support, your eagerness to change your life through food. As much as this is a “birthday” celebration party, it’s a thank you to my killer group of health warriors. Plus, who doesn’t want to eat delicious food with new and old friends in an awesome space and dance their heart out where I control the playlist? 🙂
