Can you do this with your tongue? { + 3 cooling recipes}

I have a *very* important question for you – can you do this with your tongue?

If you can you now have your very own personal cooling system that you can carry with you wherever you go! {And if you can’t, no worries! I’ve got you covered too…}

The yogic breathing practice shitali pranayama is helpful for pacifying pitta (or heat) in the body. It lowers oral temperatures, makes the saliva cool, improves digestion, absorption and assimilation. It is also effective for treating high blood pressure, or burning throat or tongue as it cools the entire body.

The best part? You don’t have to be on a yoga mat to practice this breathing technique – you can do it anywhere! On a crowded subway train, at the beach, on a dance floor, during a first date… use this breath wherever and whenever you need to chill out.

Here’s what to do: Curl your tongue into a tube. Inhale slowly through the curled tongue, swallow, and then exhale normally through the nose, keeping the mouth closed. You will feel the incoming air cool your saliva, your tongue, and the oral mucous membranes.

Can’t curl your tongue? No problem! Instead slightly separate your lips and teeth and place the tongue lightly in between the teeth – still allowing air to flow through on the inhalation. Continue to do the rest as instructed above.

Need more ways to keep cool? There are certain foods you can eat to naturally lower your body temp! Some examples include juicy fruits like watermelon and berries; water-rich veggies like cucumbers and celery; cilantro; and coconut. And because I know you guys love recipes {hey, I do too!}, today I’m sharing three easy ones you can make that include many of these cooling foods.
