This changed everything for me

10 years ago my life looked completely different than it does now. If you had told then that 10 years later I’d be a best-selling author and sought after wellness expert living in Brooklyn with a six figure health coaching practice, I definitely wouldn’t have believed you (and I probably would’ve asked you “What even is a health coach?!).

Before my wellness world journey began I was living in LA, juggling my day job of organizing documentary film festivals with pursuing my passion of acting and sneaking away to auditions whenever I got them, while still making plenty of time to party. My life was definitely full, but I felt unfulfilled. I was searching for something but I wasn’t really sure what – what would make me excited to wake up each morning, and allow me to fall asleep knowing that my deeper self was being seen? Would getting that dream role do it? Maybe finding and falling in love with “the one”? Or maybe I’d feel a deeper sense of purpose and passion if I could just lose those annoying extra 15 pounds?

What changed everything for me was going back to school and feeding that deeper part of me that craved to learn and know more… more about my body, mind and my soul.

Today I’m sharing about the program that completely changed my life, and why it might be a good fit for you (even if you have no intention of ever switching careers or becoming a health coach).

It was just about 10 years ago that I heard about the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN). A friend knew that I was passionate about food and nutrition (I literally could not stop talking about this ridiculously fresh and delicious sandwich I made), and she suggested that I check out IIN’s Health Coach Training Program. As I read the program brochure, something inside of me lit up. I could obsess about food all day long and also get paid to do that? Sign me up! Even though obviously it’s sooo much more than that, but still, it got me in the door!

I didn’t know exactly where this would lead, or what my career or job would look like after going through the program, but I did know that I wanted to learn more. Without a real plan but just pure passion I trusted that it would lead to something, or at least provide me with more clarity on where I needed to go.

And boy did it.

While attending IIN’s health coach training program, I learned that I could have a business (and actually make really good money) doing what I loved – I could cook for a living in my own way, while still having the flexibility to travel and be my own boss.

This program changed my life, and I don’t say that lightly. Right after graduating, I created a successful health coaching practice and cooking show to teach others how to truly nourish their bodies. Now I wake up every morning energized and excited to see clients, shoot videos, and appear on national television as a go-to wellness expert.

I never would have gotten to where I am today without IIN.

Becoming a health coach is just one of the wellness career opportunities that going through IIN’s program could open up for you. But even if you have no intention of switching careers or working as a health coach in any capacity, IIN might still be for you.

So often we need a purpose for doing something:

  • “I’m taking this cooking class so I can cook at home more and save my family money in the long term.”

  • “I signed up for yoga teacher training because I want to teach kids yoga at my son’s preschool on the side.”

  • “I’m going back to business school so I can turn my passion project of creating healthy treats into a thriving biz that eventually supports me.”

And while it’s awesome to have goals or plans like these, I want you to know that your passion and interest in something is more than enough reason to pursue it. Just doing something because you want to is enough.

YOU are enough.

I had no idea what I was going to do after going through IIN’s program, I just knew I was passionate about food, about eating. I followed that passion (and following it is how I continue to run my business) and it led me to a life I couldn’t have even imagined, in the best way possible.

Do you love to create healthy recipes? Does the thought of exploring a new health food store excite you? Do you get fired up talking to friends, family and co-workers about kombucha and bone broth? Do you just freaking love food? Or even just helping others?
