Where are all my over heaters at? 🙋♀️ This email is for you!
This may be an unpopular opinion but summer is def not my favorite season – tell me I’m not alone! I mean I love summer travels and plans, but I much prefer cooler temps. I’m definitely a fall baby through and through.
So if you’re like me, about 90% Pitta in Ayurveda (meaning I overheat easily and definitely run hot), here’s what you can do to stay cool (and if you’re on the other side of the world hi! Save this email for your summer season!):
Always hot redheaded baby Robyn
I switch my hot drinks, ie matchas for iced matchas. I make them in my Breville Milk Cafe Electric Frother using the cool setting and it comes out all frothy and perfect.
I get outside as much as I can – even when it’s super hot. I think surrendering to the heat can be good sometimes. I just tell myself that I can walk more slowly, take my time, do a light jog instead of an attempt at real running. It’s ok to let my outdoor movement be whatever it wants to be and that way I can actually get out there, clear my head, and have so much more fun that way. I think this helps balance my brain and body with the season.
I try to go to the farm stand as much as possible and cook really lightly and simply. Everything on the grill – all my veggies – every week.
More than ever I try to stay consistent with facials during the summer, and for at-home maintenance I really like my ice roller from the Skinny Confidential (try ROBYN for 15% off)
I practice Sheetali, “cooling breath”, anywhere and everywhere. Try this, an excerpt from Kripalu.com: “Practice Sheetali by inhaling through a curled tongue and exhaling through the nose. During each exhalation, lightly touch the tip of the tongue to the roof of the mouth, inviting the cool tip of the tongue to send coolness toward the upper palate. Swallow now and then if the throat feels dry. Continue this cycle for one to five minutes—until you feel refreshed.”
And lastly, I try to remember to chill, figuratively speaking. With the sun setting later and the kids going to bed later, we can have this desire to go go go that can really wear us down. So if my body is crying out for more rest and time spent horizontal that’s okay! I try to honor myself most no matter what season I’m in.
