This week I want to talk to you about my beloved nutrition school, The Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN). I receive daily emails asking about my experience, my thoughts on the school and how I built my career. Sparked by a conference for graduates of IIN I attended this past weekend, I want to share with you my personal experience about how exactly I landed in Your Healthiest You land, plus a sweet bonus for you if you ever thought about starting a new career in health and wellness (scroll to bottom for gift details!).
Four years ago I was living in Los Angeles working as an actress and in documentary film and film festival production. I was unfulfilled (someone feeling unfulfilled living in LA? Shocking!), and soul searching for what I really wanted to be doing with my life. During this time I met Scott, my husband. As I began a new and blissful relationship I started cooking a lot more. I always loved to be in the kitchen, but now I was venturing beyond Trader Joe’s, walking to the farmer’s market every weekend and hauling home all the beautiful produce I purchased. I would make these epic meals for Scott and I with all the ingredients from the market bounty, totally impressing myself with my cooking skills and passion.
One day at the documentary film office, I was instant messaging with my good friend Megan about how I was tired of working gig to gig, that I needed something more, and that all I could think about was this ridiculous sandwich I made for Scott that morning. No really, it was insane. Freshly baked sourdough bread, farm eggs, California avocado, spicy arugula and organic goat cheese. At lunchtime I was still dreaming of this sandwich I packed for him for breakfast.
Megan responded to my sandwich obsession by telling me about “this school” two of her friends attended. I immediately googled “the school” and discovered the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Typically held up in rounds of decision making (I’m a Libra!), I uncharacteristically enrolled without hesitation one week later, quickly figured out the financing and mentally began planning my (and Scott’s, unbeknownst to him) move back to NYC so I could attend school.
It was the best decision I’ve ever made.
I’m now my own boss, run two successful businesses and am truly living a life of everything I ever could have imagined. I’ve found my “people”. I can now geek out over things like chocolate kale chips (yes they do exist), the newest green juice company or my latest tea obsession. This is all coming from someone who had never eaten kale until 3 years ago!
So, if you’ve been thinking, “I wonder how Robyn’s career got started, I might want to do that too”, I encourage you to check out my school, Integrative Nutrition. Whether you are interested a career in the health industry or just want to learn how to heal your body there is no better place to be.
