What A Week It’s Been

Boy, what a week it’s been.

Hurricane Sandy really kicked the sh*t out of us.

So much devastation.  So much loss.

To all of you who have checked in on me, thank you so much.  My husband and I were lucky, just a half a block from the flood lines.  We lost power and headed uptown to my mom’s apartment for the week; we were grateful to have a home to go to.

We packed our belongings, clothes and work for the week, but most importantly, we packed the fridge. Taking as much as a couple coolers could hold (including a double batch of my favorite lentil soup), we headed north.

Upon returning home to power on Friday filed with heavy hearts for those who had no home to return to, we knew we had to get out and help in any way we could. So, we woke up on Saturday, hopped in our car with a bit of apprehension due to only having a half tank of gas, and drove out to Rockaway to volunteer.

Here are some photos I took that day:

As you can see the loss is astounding.   People are desperately in need of our help and humanity.  If you’re looking to help, here is a comprehensive list of options.

The Red Cross is always a great way to donate.

My heart goes out to any of you who suffered loss last week.  I realized how lucky I am to have incredible family, friends and most importantly, support.  We are all connected; our hearts all beat together.  Please continue to give and be kind in the months ahead.  It will take a long time to recover from this one but I know we can do it together.

Love,
Robyn

PS For all of you have been asking for my in person cooking class I’m happy to say that Robyn’s Cooking Club is back!  Join us on our new permanent night, Wednesday, November 28th.  As part of my support of the victims of Sandy I will be donating $10 for every participant.
