What food and love really means to me

Yesterday I shared a few of my fave sweet treats (and how I keep those portions in check), so if you still need to get your V-day baking on here’s those recipes: Your Healthiest You Valentine’s Treat Recipes.

Even though we all know that Valentine’s Day is supposed to be about appreciating the ones we love, it has somehow turned into appreciating chocolate.

Let’s be real here: any way you slice it, food equals love.

Food is a way we show love, and also how we receive it. I grew up in a home where this was all too true. My mom always cooked delicious meals for our family – you may have heard me mention that Coq au Vin was a regular Wednesday night occurrence. Her food was infused with love. I bonded with my dad over giant soft pretzels, and my brother and I had a ritual of getting Vanilla Coke floats together.

As I navigated my way into the adult working world, I knew I wanted to do something with food, I just didn’t know what.

I knew I didn’t want to work in a restaurant or necessarily go to culinary school, but I was obsessed with cooking and sharing my creations with my then boyfriend Scott.

That’s when at just the right time I heard about the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I didn’t know where this would lead, or what my career or job would look like after going through the program, but I did know that this was something I was so passionate about. Without a real plan but just pure passion I trusted that it would lead to something, or at least provide me with more clarity on where I needed to go.

And boy did it.

While attending IIN’s health coach training program, I learned that I could have a business (and actually make really good money) doing what I loved – I could cook for a living in my own way, while still having the flexibility to travel and be my own boss.

This program changed my life, and I don’t say that lightly. Right after graduating, I created a successful health coaching practice and cooking show to teach others how to truly nourish their bodies. Now I wake up every morning energized and excited to see clients, shoot videos, and appear on national television as a go-to wellness expert.

I never would have gotten to where I am today without IIN.

Do you love to create healthy recipes? Does the thought of exploring a new health food store excite you? Do you get fired up talking to friends, family and co-workers about kombucha and bone broth? If this sounds like you, check out the Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s health coach training program.
