Y’all, I legit forgot I wrote books on gut health recently. Not even joking. I was on the beach in Nosara, Costa Rica for our annual fam trip, and I was chatting with a lovely woman about her belly woes. She was asking me about digestive enzymes, I was sharing about chewing! And I realized, we all still need this advice!
So let’s do a gut check..how’s your gut feeling so far this winter? Let’s review some of my guiding Go with Your Gut principles together…
Why should we take care of our gut?
Your gut is at the center of everything including your immunity, mental health, energy levels, and digestion. When your gut is thriving, so are YOU.
So how can we support our gut?
One of my fave ways is adding some fermented foods into your daily diet! Fermented foods are gut GOLD. Why? They boost digestion, help with bloating from meals, and add healthy bacteria (probiotics).
Here are some foods to try:
It’s also helpful to follow the good gut “Rule of 5” from my second book, which means building your meals with the following five items:
Hydration is another key part of good gut health, but you want to hydrate the right way. Skipping water DURING meals helps your body’s digestive enzymes work properly.
Instead, hydrate 15-30 minutes before or after a meal, but if you really need something to drink with your food, sip warm tea or lemon water instead.
And one last thing to incorporate into your diet, aloe. Aloe can be our gut’s best friend in the winter. Why? Because it soothes inflammation, promotes healing, and eases digestion.
Wondering how you can use it? Blend aloe vera gel into smoothies, mix it with water, or take a shot with a squeeze of lemon.
Happy gut, happy you!
