Here’s Your Permission Slip

Happy New Year!

In yoga this week, my teacher said “happy first Monday of the decade!” and I gotta say, it did NOT sit well with me. Because you know what, it doesn’t matter if it’s the first Monday or the first month or whatever first it happens to be. This is life and it’s happening all of the time.

And right now, life is a lot. This holiday and eclipse season (here’s a great article all about it if you’re curious!) has been really intense for a lot of people.

Now, don’t get me wrong, when I first realized that it was the end of a decade, it felt inspiring and motivating. But as time went on and 2020 approached, it all started to feel like too darn much. Life is a lot as it is every single day, and when you add in too much intensity, pressure, and expectations of how we’re supposed to be and feel on it, it can make everything feel extra overwhelming.

When I personally feel the pressure of all the things I am supposed to do and be, I take a pause. Right now, all I want to focus on is breathing, hydrating, and getting lots of fresh air. And it’s enough. My 2019 journaling review and 2020 intentions will just have to wait!

So, here’s your permission slip if you’re feeling any of this too: Respect and honor where you are right now. If you need to recover from the intensity of the holidays, take your time. Focus on your anchors (breath, water, rest). You just taking care of yourself is more than enough.

When it feels right for you, and you’re being called to do so, set your intentions on your own time. Whether that is in two weeks or even sometime in March. When you feel the ping, that’s when you’ll know you’re ready. And if you’re afraid you’ll forget, set a calendar reminder for Feb 15th to check in with yourself and see if it’s time. And if it doesn’t feel right, make sure you honor that, too. I’ll be right there with you.
