I’m Committing to This Every Quarter for the Year Ahead

Have you ever felt like you just need some solo time to step away from the busyness of life and reconnect with yourself? I felt exactly that at the end of last year—a deep pull to pause, reflect on everything that had happened, and get clear about how I wanted to move forward.

Here’s how I made it happen—and how you can too:

Step 1: Be Honest About What You Need

I started with a heartfelt conversation with my husband. I shared how much I needed some solo time to reflect on the past year and vision for the year ahead. It can feel vulnerable to ask for time away, but remember: taking care of YOU is how you show up as your best self for your family.

Step 2: Get Creative with the Logistics

In my case, we decided I could use our house upstate for an extra couple nights after a family weekend, but there’s lots of creative ways to pull this off:

  • Use points for a hotel stay (I’ve done this option too!) or find a cozy Airbnb
  • Ask a friend if you can borrow their space, a guest room when they’re out for the day, or an office. People are usually more than happy to help.
  • Plan a “retreat” at home when everyone else is out for the day.

Step 3: Focus on Reconnecting with Yourself

During my retreat, I gave myself permission to slow down. I spent the time journaling, pulling tarot, meditating, walking, and making myself beautiful meals and tea. Whenever I felt like picking up my phone to call a friend, I reminded myself: This is about being ALONE. This is about me.

Step 4: Reflect + Vision for the Year Ahead

If you’re wondering how to structure your retreat, here’s the framework I used (you can also grab this for yourself and do it with me here!):

  1. Go through your calendar and/or photos for the past year and write down what happened each month or season.
  2. Write down any themes you noticed or lessons learned that you want to take away.
  3. Write a letter to close out the year.
  4. Set intentions for how you want to feel in the year ahead. I focus on a theme or emotion first then find the goals/specifics flow from there.

This solo retreat was a gift to myself—and by giving myself this time, I came back to my family and responsibilities feeling refreshed and focused.

So, if you’ve been craving time to reflect and recharge, I encourage you to find a way to create it for yourself. No one is going to do this for you! And it doesn’t have to be perfect or expensive. Just getting some real intentional time for yourself is so incredibly important.
