You might not know this about me…

You might not know this about me but I’m a closet nerd.

I am always (as in every single day) reading up on the latest food and supplement trends and experimenting to see what really works. I love spending days at a time diving back into my nutrition school materials, catching up on the newest health world info and brainstorming with my team about how we can bring all this goodness to YOU.

This is exactly why I decided to participate in a special online learning program, and today I’ve got the insider invite for YOU to join me.

A few weeks back in my group coaching program, Your Healthiest You, we talked ALL things fermentation. I went a little into the science behind probiotics (what those buggers ARE exactly) and why gut health really matters: how it impacts everything from breakouts to mood swings to how often you get sick. I received a lot of AWESOME questions from my ladies in the group, some of which I had to go back and research!

Yes, I’m a gut health expert, and I do know my fair share of the science, but I am definitely not a doctor! My tips are generally focused around gut-friendly cooking, and how you can address the emotional side of eating by connecting with your intuition and letting that guide you to the best foods (and choices) for YOU.

The science though, it is soooo interesting to me and I had definitely been feeling pulled to dive deeper when I received an email from a friend asking if I would be willing to be interviewed for the 2017 Microbiome Medicine Summit organized by Dr. Raphael Kellman.

Thanks universe 😉

What is the Microbiome Medicine Summit?

This is an online conference covering EVERYTHING you would ever want to know about your microbiome. What makes this event super rad is the group of speakers: Dave Asprey (Founder of Bulletproof and creator of the infamous Bulletproof Coffee), Terry Wahls (one of my nutrition school teachers and developer of the Wahls protocol), JJ Virgin (#1 best selling author of The Virgin Diet), and even a few fellow health coaches like Whitney Tingle and Danielle Duboise founders of the mega successful meal delivery service Sakara Life.

Wait, what IS a microbiome?

The human microbiome is all the tiny microbes that live in and on our bodies. They are all the little bugs that are on us, our skin, the dirt – everything! They belong in and on our bodies; they help support our health; they help digest our food and provide many kinds of protective mechanisms for human health.

So…what?

Your microbiome:

  • Extracts vitamins and other nutrients from your food that you need to survive – i.e. helps your body get all the goodness out of all that kale and quinoa you are eating.
  • Is essential to proper immune function. Approximately seventy to eighty percent of your immune tissue is located within your digestive system.
  • And a healthy microbiome can improve your happiness. Recent evidence indicates that not only is your brain “aware” of your gut microbes, but these bacteria can influence your perception of the world and even alter your behavior.

So you get it – the microbiome is SUPER important for us to be healthy, happy humans.
