Sometimes we find ourselves having an utterly crappy day. Stuff just doesn’t go our way and if it happens particularly early, it has the potential to totally screw the entire day up. Ever have one of those days? (I see you nodding, yes, even through the computer).
How do we take the not-so-fun stuff and decide to still have the best day possible? Is that even possible?! Well, yes, but first it takes the decision to turn the day around. You can simply say out loud “I am choosing to mentally start this day over and feel great from here on out”. Once you’ve made your verbal declaration here are my 3 top tips to turn around any day:
1. Don’t skip your morning routine. No matter what. Don’t have a morning routine aside from getting dressed and getting out the door? Start one. You can do a one-minute meditation, sit and take three deep breaths before jumping out of bed, take a walk around the block, journal one page or read an inspiring quote on Instagram. This will set the tone for how you want the rest of your day to flow and is absolutely crucial for anyone’s health and happiness (even if you’re not so into the chiaseedkaleness (new word I made up).
2. Do what you need to do to get back in the game. Shake it out, go for a run or a walk, scream at the top of your lungs, say five things you’re grateful for, cancel dinner plans and get your booty to yoga, anything that you know will get you back to your happy place. I promise you will be so much more productive and get so much more done if you take care of YOU first. Which leads me to my next tip…
3. Listen to what’s coming up for you… what is this moment a sign of? What do you need more of? Less of? We’re so quick to go go go and just get ourselves onto the next thing that we forget to pause and ask what this is really about. Usually it’s not about the meeting you were late for or the fight you had with your spouse. If I get in a fight with the hubs it’s rarely about the thing we’re fighting about. If I ask myself what’s really going on here it becomes very clear that I need to up my own personal self-care, connect more with him, figure out a few new things in our relationship, whatever it is asking these questions gives me the answers for how to move forward and feel not just better in the moment, but better in my soul.
Remember that everything eventually passes. If you work to turn around a bad day, it will likely become second nature to do so. And then you can get back to being your bad ass self. 🙂
I would love to expand these tips so let me know in the comments below, how do you turn around a crappy day?
